Frequently Asked Questions

Most of us can relate to these common questions. Below we do our best to answer them.

Q: “I feel very frustrated with the direction this country is moving in. But I’m just one person, how can I make a difference?”

A: While it is sometimes easy for one voice to be ignored, it is more difficult to ignore the voice of an organized group that’s working together for common values and a shared cause. This is the case for many reasons including our ability to build on each other’s strengths and pool our resources. We’ve been successful in the past in working to elect local, state and national candidates and with your help we can make a difference in all future elections. That’s why it’s important to be part of groups like the Grosse Pointe Democratic Club if you want to make a difference.

Q: “I know that a number of my neighbors don’t share some of my perspectives on what’s going on in the world. How can I be part of a group that I’m more in sync with?”

A: A diversity of political perspectives is critical to a healthy democracy and we’re happy to report there is a growing diversity of political perspectives in the area. We encourage you to join us at one of our meetings or events and get to know us. If you already know you want to join click here to sign up.

Q: “I’d like to get more involved in public issues, but don’t know where to start. Can you put me in touch with people who can provide me with some good information and options?”

A: Absolutely, that’s exactly what we’re about. There are several ways to do this. One, you’re welcome to come to one of our general meetings or events and introduce yourself to anyone on the board and let us know what you’re looking for. You can find information and dates on the News Calendar pages. Another option is to send us an email on the Contact Us page and someone will get back with you.

Q: “I used to be involved in politics and public issues, but since I’ve had kids and am so busy with work and family, I don’t have much time. Still, I care about what’s going on and would love to find some ways to stay a little more involved. Is there a way to do that without becoming overcommitted?"

A: There sure is. One way is for you to simply become a member. Increasing our resources by having more members is an important contribution you can make in helping to build a stronger Democratic presence in this area. Becoming a member will also put you on the club newsletter’s mailing list so you’ll be better informed of what we’re up to and are aware of upcoming events and meetings. So, if you have one of those rare opportunities to attend at some point, you can. If this makes sense for your situation, just click here for a membership application. Again, we’re happy to have you involved at whatever level of participation your life allows – even if it’s minimal.
